Animal-supportive architecture (ASA) moves beyond an human-centric view to embrace a more inclusive design philosophy that recognizes and values the place of animals within our built environment. ASA represents a multifaceted approach to architectural and design practices that prioritizes the well-being and needs of animals alongside those of humans.
As one of its goals, the Haven Homes project seeks to create a collection of architectural concepts that make living with animals better, improving the health and happiness of pets and the people who care for them. While developing these concepts, we adhere to a strict set of design principles, which we are sharing in the hopes that it sparks an idea for a new concept or an improvement to an existing one, or ways the principles themselves could be improved.
Applying these principles eliminated hundreds of concepts we considered; below are some of the few that have been put into production at Haven House and Cloud Nine Studios as part of this project:
